About the Author 

Shawl lobree is an engineer and business leader who has launched numerous innovations in the medical industry. Shawl is an avid story teller and fan of U.S. history and the history of innovation, technology, and manufacturing.

While researching this incredible story, Shawl plowed through hundreds of books on Edison, Bell, the telegraph, telephone, phonograph, electric light, Robber Barons, Gilded Age, the Centennial, and the history of inventing and patents in the U.S. Shawl did a deep dive into thousands of letters from Thomas Edison, Alexander Graham Bell, Gardiner Hubbard, Mabel Hubbard Bell, Edward Johnson, and their counterparts (archived by the Library of Congress, Rutgers University, and the National Park Service). 

One of the most enjoyable parts of this project for Shawl was visiting the key locations where this incredible story took place including Boston, Salem, Cambridge, Somerville, Newark, New York City, Menlo Park (Edison, New Jersey), Philadelphia, and Washington, DC.

During his career as a biomedical engineer and sales and marketing leader, Shawl has helped launch numerous ground breaking medical innovations including spiral CT and multi-slice CT, CT angiography, short bore and wide-bore MRI, breast MRI, digital mammography, 3D mammography, contrast enhanced mammography, flat panel digital fluoroscopy, wireless digital radiography, computer aided detection / artificial intelligence, and other breakthrough technologies. 

Shawl has been a business leader at every size of technology company including garage start-up, venture capital backed market creator, pre-IPO company, and large multinational corporation, and has been an executive officer at three publicly traded companies.

Shawl lives in Atlanta with his wife and two daughters.
